Water Treatment Plant Operator

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Water Treatment Plant Operator.  Work as part of a team responsible for the operation of at least one facility and supervise up to 3 employees plus contractors.

The Water Treatment Plant Operator position will maintain, operate and carry out repairs of water treatment plants to efficiently achieve compliance with current plant licence criteria and adopted operating procedures.

We are seeking a technical specialist to assist in the maintenance and operation of Council’s water treatment and catchment assets including Bray Park, Uki and Tyalgum Water Treatment Plants; Clarrie Hall Dam; and Bray Park and Tyalgum Weirs.   The ideal applicant  will  hold a Certificate III in Water Operations – Water Treatment.

We are seeking:

  • Certificate III in Water Operations (Water Treatment) or relevant equivalent qualification and water industry experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of high complexity water treatment plant processes
  • demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of SCADA systems.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Bray Park, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

 Essential:

  1. Hold a current Drivers Licence Class C.
  2. Certificate III in Water Operations (Water Treatment) or relevant equivalent qualification and water industry experience.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge in the operation of Water Treatment Plants and Reticulation Systems.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of High Complexity Water Treatment Plant processes.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in an isolated small team environment.
  6. Demonstrated ability to problem solve operational issues and make process adjustments to maintain operational targets.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of SCADA systems.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  9. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information to supervisors and members of the public.
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of WHS and legislative requirements relating to water treatment plants and dams, including Environmental Protection Licences, NSW Department of Health and Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
  11. The position requires the incumbent to be available for 24 hour “on call” emergency service, on a rotational basis and the incumbents home needs to be geographically located within 30 minutes of the Bray Park Water Treatment Plant so that response times to “call outs” is minimised.

Desirable:

  1. Demonstrated competence in the operation and maintenance of water pumping stations, reservoirs, and dams.
  2. Hold a NSW Department of Health Fluoridation Certificate.
  3. Dams Safety Surveillance Training (National Accredited) or equivalent experience.
  4. Hold a Confined Space Entry Certificate.
  5. WorkCover OHS Induction Training for Construction Work.
  6. Hold a NSW Boat Drivers Licence.
